In general, Senior Appraisers: • Obtain, process, and analyze data for timely completion of the valuations of the most complex and specialized residential, commercial, industrial, manufacturing, technological, agricultural, institutional, mixed-use, and special-use real and personal property for tax assessment purposes • Present appraisals before the Assessment Appeals Board • Perform lead work and train new workers The Assessor’s Office is currently involved in several major projects, including the development of a new Assessor’s Property Assessment System (APAS), and the appraisal and assessment of several large-scale commercial, manufacturing, research and development, and mixed-use developments being built throughout San Mateo County. Senior Appraisers may have the opportunity to work as subject matter experts in the development of the new assessor computer system. Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will either be a • BOE (California State Board of Equalization) certified appraiser with at least five years of experience, of which three years were working on commercial appraisals for assessment purposes, or • BREA (California Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers) licensed (BREA Certified) appraiser with six years of experience appraising real property, of which three years were valuing commercial properties. All employees must obtain a BOE Property Tax Appraiser Certification within one year of appointment to this position. The person hired into this position may be required to obtain the Advanced Appraiser Certificate issued by State Board of Equalization within two years of appointment. Senior Appraisers may act as lead workers within a group of other appraisers and must be able to operate in a rapidly changing technological environment. Knowledge of personal computers in a Windows environment is highly desired.
