BLM Seeks County Input on Deferred Maintenance

June 24, 2021

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is hosting state-specific listening sessions to discuss future funding for projects under the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA), with the California session set for Wednesday, June 30, at 10 am PDT. The Bureau is seeking feedback and ideas on how BLM can best invest current and future GAOA funding to reduce the deferred maintenance backlog and make public lands safer, more accessible, and more beneficial for everyone. You can register for the meeting here.

Signed into law in 2020, GAOA established the National Parks and Public Lands Legacy Restoration Fund. The Act provides funding for five years to the BLM and other federal land management agencies to address deferred maintenance needs. The BLM’s share of this is up to $95 million per year. Projects funded in FY21 have made vital improvements to buildings/structures, recreational assets, transportation assets, and water/utility systems in states across the West. These projects have addressed public health and safety needs, improved public access and enhanced the visitor experience across millions of acres of public lands.
