Is your glass half-full, or half-empty?
I am a glass-half-full person and attempt to wake every morning as an optimist. In my line of work, it is easy to arrive at “no it can’t be done,” and my goal is to get to yes as often as possible. Life is short and given the freedoms we have in this country I try to fully live each day and put a smile on at least one person’s face.
What motivated you to enter public service?
I believe every American should consider serving our Country and fellow citizens for some period of time in some manner, so I chose to serve in the Marine Corps. After a few years at PaineWebber as an account representative, I decided to continue service using my financial skills in County Government. I find it rewarding to assist people and help solve issues and problems where I am able as an elected official.
Who is your hero?
My late father is my hero, he was a remarkable person.
What’s your proudest professional or personal accomplishment?
My proudest personal accomplishment was becoming a Captain in the Marine Corps and serving as a leader of Marines, it was an unbelievable experience. I have two professional accomplishments I am most proud of— one was becoming an elected representative of the people, and the second was serving as one of the founders of the CalTRUST program which is a useful financial tool available to every municipality in the State. It was a fantastic journey bringing it from a concept to reality.
What’s the most interesting or fulfilling part of your job?
Interacting with the people and my fellow employees is the most fulfilling part of my day. The work is not always easy, but I enjoy leading my staff and supporting them with a positive and warm attitude and a welcoming office environment, their home away from home.
