The Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) is
administering a new grant program that is open to California
counties. The Budget Act of 2021 (Senate
Bill 129) established the
Public Defense Pilot Program and allocated $49,500,000 for
indigent defense services in FY 2021-22. Subject to future
appropriations, a total of $148,500,000 is available through FY
2023-24. This grant program is available
noncompetitively to counties.
The Request
For Applications provides the necessary information to submit
an application to the Board of State and Community Corrections
for the Public Defense Pilot Program.
