Beginning this week, the Department of Health Care Services
(DHCS) is now including the option to request free fentanyl test
strips through the Naloxone Distribution Project (NDP) online
application. As part of the 2023-24 Budget, $6 million in
one-time funding was appropriated for the distribution of free
fentanyl test strips to entities also eligible to receive
naloxone through the NDP. Eligible applicants include county
public health and behavioral health entities, law enforcement
agencies, community clinics, substance use recovery facilities,
and organizations that serve individuals experiencing
homelessness.
Applicants can now apply for naloxone, fentanyl strips, or both
through the
online application. Additional information on NDP, including
