Counties Encouraged to Provide Comments During Upcoming CPUC Hearings on AT&T Application for Relief From Carrier of Last Resort Obligation

March 14, 2024

As mentioned in a previous CSAC Bulletin Article, CSAC staff would like to remind counties about the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) ruling that AT&T California shall provide notice to its customers of a series of public participation hearings.

CSAC continues to strongly encourage counties to share comments regarding AT&T’s applications with the CPUC.

Make your voice heard:

  1. Prior hearings were held on February 6 in Clovis City, CA, February 22 in Mendocino County, and on March 14 (today) in Indio, CA. The last two hearings will be virtual-only, held on March 19 at 2 pm and 6 pm:

Telephone number to comment publicly and/or listen during the public participation hearing: 1-800-857-1917; Passcode: 6032788#

Live broadcast with captions available in English and Spanish to view the 3/19/24 public participation hearing and to view the recording after: https://adminmonitor.com/ca/cpuc/hearing/202403192

  1. Submit comments directly to the CPUC’s online public comment portal.

CSAC is opposed and will be providing comments on the 19th and submitting our opposition letter to the CPUC immediately after that.

On February 20th, the California Delegation of Congress sent a letter to the CPUC expressing concerns with AT&T’s applications seeking relief from COLR obligations and the removal of ETC designation in various areas of California. They emphasized the potential impact on community safety due to the loss of landlines. The entirety of the letter can be found here.
