The report includes feedback and findings solicited from
implementation partners and behavioral health stakeholders on
experiences with policy administration, including key
implementation challenges and successes. The report will also be
posted on the DHCS website: BH CalAIM
webpage in the coming days.
This report highlights themes in initial implementation through
qualitative input, including both overarching and
initiative-specific successes and challenges. Most Medi-Cal
managed care plans (MCPs) and county mental health plans (MHPs)
report that the greatest successes of the CalAIM behavioral
health policies and initiatives include improving coordination
across delivery systems and supporting members by providing
better and faster access to care.
Areas identified for improvement include suggestions to improve
technical assistance delivery, such as by providing more
touchpoints and faster responses from DHCS to stakeholder
questions to support implementation in real time. DHCS also
received significant feedback on the functionality of the
screening tools and workload associated with the use of the
tools, as well as general feedback regarding the pace of CalAIM
implementation as MCPs and MHPs face ongoing workforce challenges
