Governor Signs Sea Level Rise Database Bill

October 5, 2017

CSAC- supported legislation extending the Sea Level Rise Database Program has been signed by Governor Brown. AB 184 authored by Assemblymember Marc Berman extends the length of time that public agencies and private entities must provide sea level rise planning information to the Natural Resources Agency for the Sea Level Rise Database.

The program was slated to end January 1, 2018, but now will continue to January 1, 2023. The goal of this database is to describe what California is doing to prepare for and adapt to sea level rise, including actions taken by cities, counties, regions, and various public and private entities.

CSAC recognizes the potential for serious impacts on all levels of government as a result of climate change and supports planning for the fiscal impacts of climate change adaptation, mitigation, and strategy implementation. Additionally, counties recognize that a one size fits all approach is not appropriate for California’s diverse communities.
