Whole Person Care Pilot Program Apps Due Soon

June 9, 2016

Counties interested in participating in the Whole Person Care (WPC) Pilot Program need to submit their applications by July 1. WPC is a five-year program, authorized under the Medi-Cal 2020 wavier, that coordinates physical health, behavioral health, and social services in a patient-centered manner.

The goal of WPC is to improve a member’s health and well-being through more efficient and effective uses of resources. WPC pilots will identify high-risk, high-utilizing target populations, share data between systems, and provide comprehensive care coordination, while ultimately looking at interventions that reduce inappropriate emergency and inpatient utilization for vulnerable Medi-Cal members.

The WPC pilots may also choose to expand access to supportive housing options for these populations. Applicants will be notified of final decisions by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) on October 24, 20016. After receiving this notification, lead entities will be required to provide formal acceptance to DHCS by November 3, 2016. Additional information on WPC, including the application, can be found at the DHCS website.
