Description:

Under direction, to perform a variety of difficult and complex professional office and field engineering work; to prepare plans, designs, and specifications for a variety of county projects; to review work prepared by outside consultants; to prepare engineering reports; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the experienced registered level classification in the professional engineering class series. Incumbents perform a wide scope of professional office and field engineering work. They may also provide project planning and coordination for paraprofessional and technical staff. This class is distinguished from Junior Civil Engineer by requiring registration and the performance of a broader range of more complex assignments. It is distinguished from Senior Civil Engineer by the fact that Senior Civil Engineers are assigned full supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications:

Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Three years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience in the planning, development, construction, and maintenance of public works facilities.

Completion of sufficient training and education to meet professional engineering registration requirements in California.
Special Requirements:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid and appropriate drivers license.

Possession of current registration as a professional engineer in California.
