Description:
Nevada Irrigation District (“NID”) is seeking a Board Secretary.
This is a key role reporting to the General Manager of NID and
serves as the interface and central point of contact for the NID
Board of Directors. A key activity is ensuring that NID Board
agendas, committees and public meeting operations run smoothly
and in compliance with the Brown Act. Additionally, this role
oversees up to 4 employees and the function of Records Management
and serves as the Custodian of Records.
There is frequent interaction directly with the General Manager
and Board of Directors, as well as other Management staff members
on all matters before the Board and various NID Committees. The
role may serve as an interim supervisor in the case of any
organizational changes.
The majority of this role involves the preparation and
distribution of minutes, agendas, files, recordings, postings and
notices in accordance of public meeting act requirements, in
addition to supervising up to four employees. Serving as NID’s
Election Official and responding to or investigating complaints
by the public are also components of this role.
Qualifications:
Experience, Education and License Guidelines
• Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree with coursework in Business,
Public Administration, English or related field.
• At least 3 years of increasingly responsible administration
secretarial experience in preparing agendas and transcribing
official minutes of public meetings.
• At least 1 year of experience supervising administrative
personnel.
•Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
•Appointment as a State of California Notary Public.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Highly qualified candidates will also possess the following
qualities:
•An individual who has deep experience in dealing with the public
and has worked with orcurrently works with a city, county, state
or other government entity or utility.
•Has experience in records retention and working with document
archiving technologies.
•Is able to interact with high level executives and professionals
and be seen as the expert in his/her function.
•Understands and able to partner with other functions such as
Finance and Information Technology.
•Is able to diplomatically ensure others are moving documents
forward relating to NID projects,meetings and agendas so that
deadlines are met.
•Comfortable in a neutral role where a lot of information is
recorded and processed and desires to produce well written
documentation.
•Strong organizational and time management skills.
