$51,542.40 – $62,649.60

Description:

Under limited supervision, inspects construction projects to interpret and enforce compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and laws. Incumbents in this class often perform the most difficult, controversial, and/or complex building code inspections and review of construction drawings. Incumbents oversee the investigation of alleged violations of housing, plumbing, and electrical codes. Employees in this class receive very limited supervision within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; and four (4) years of full-time work experience performing journey-level building inspections for a public agency responsible for enforcing municipal, county, and state building and construction codes; or one (1) year of experience as a Building Inspector II with the County of Mendocino; or a combination of related education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver’s License

Must possess two (2) certifications in both Commercial and Residential Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Plumbing Inspection (total of four [4] certifications). Must obtain the remaining four (4) commercial and residential certifications within these disciplines (for a total of eight [8] certifications) within 24 months of hire. Must obtain certification as a Residential Plans Examiner within 36 months of hire.

OR

If possessing a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Building Inspector II with the County of Mendocino, candidates must also possess certifications as a Commercial and Residential Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Inspector (total of eight [8] certifications). Must obtain certification as a Residential Plans Examiner within 24 months of hire.

Note: Certificates must be issued by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) or the International Code Council (ICC). Alternative certifications recognized by IAPMO and/or ICC may be substituted if determined acceptable.
