The incumbent inspects buildings and structures in all stages of construction, alteration, and repair for conformance with approved plans and building codes; performs plan checks for residential structures; issues, processes, and approves building permits; and answers questions concerning code enforcement and structural requirements for the public, architects, and engineers.

Qualifications:

Both levels require I.C.B.O. or I.C.C. certification as a Building Inspector, Combination Inspector, Combination Dwelling Inspector, or Plans Examiner and equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. In addition, Level I requires some work experience in journey level building trades work and Level II requires two (2) years of building inspector experience comparable to a Building Inspector I with Madera County.
