The County of Calaveras is seeking a professional and politically astute administrator who has the ability to see the big picture and confront problems with a positive attitude.  This department head position is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the Board of Supervisors and is responsible for the overall operation of the County’s Building and Code Compliance divisions.   Many wonderful opportunities, as well as challenges, await our new Building Official.  With the devastation of the Butte Fire, you will play a key role in the overall rebuilding and recovery efforts in the County.  Your experience, patience and resilience will be crucial to helping our residents rebuild their lives.  The Department operates with an annual budget of 1,266,638 and is supported by eleven full-time staff members.

Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate will have five (5) years of responsible work experience in construction with demonstrated knowledge of Uniform Building Codes; five (5) years of supervisory experience, two of which should be at the level of a Chief Building Official/Deputy Community Development Agency Director or equivalent; and certification as a Building Official from the International Code Counsel (ICC).  Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
