We are currently accepting applications for Chief Assistant Clerk
of the Board- Senior Deputy County Administrator.
The Clerk of the Board’s Office provides administrative direction
for all Board of Supervisors and Assessment Appeals Board.
Typical responsibilities include preparing, publishing and
archiving records; receiving and processing claims against the
County; researching current and historical records maintained by
Clerk of the Board; keeps records of appointments to Boards,
Commissions and Committees; processes legal publications,
postings and notices; and acts as filing officer/official for
Statement of Economic Interest forms; updates the County’s
Administrative and General Ordinance Codes.
The Chief Assistant Clerk of the Board- Senior Deputy County
Administrator is responsible for planning, organizing, directing,
and coordinating the operations of the Office of the Clerk of the
Board of Supervisors, including the development and
implementation of procedures and staff training. The Chief
Assistant Clerk of the Board is also assigned with directing and
supervising the preparation, assembly, publication and
distribution of agendas, notices, board orders, resolutions,
correspondence, summary of actions taken, minutes of meetings,
hearings, appeals, rezonings and other matters within the
jurisdiction of the Board of Supervisors, the Contra Costa
Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, and the Contra Costa
County Fire Protection Board of Directors.
This position reports directly to the Contra Costa County
Administrator.
Qualifications:
License Required: Possession of a valid California motor
vehicle operator’s license. Out of state valid motor vehicle
operator’s license will be accepted during the application
process.
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an
accredited college or university with a major in Business, Public
Administration, Finance or closely related field.
Experience: Four (4) years of full-time or its
equivalent administrative management experience in positions such
as City Clerk or Clerk of the Board of Supervisors’ Office; two
(2) of the four (4) years must include supervisory or lead
experience.
Education Substitution: CCBSA Certified Clerk of the
Board Certification will substitute for two (2) years of the
required education. Additional qualifying experience may be
substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Experience Substitution: Possession of a master’s degree
in Business, Public Administration, Finance or closely related
field may be substituted for six (6) months of the required
experience. There is no substitution for the two (2) years of
supervisory or lead experience.

2. Application Screening: Depending on the number of
applications received, an Application Screening Committee may be
convened to review and evaluate each candidate’s application.
Those candidates determined to be best qualified for the position
will be invited to the oral interview.
3. Oral Interview: An oral interview will be conducted
by a Qualifications Appraisal Board in Martinez, Ca. The Board
will evaluate candidates in job-related areas. Candidates must
receive a rating of at least 70 from a majority of the Board
members to be ranked on the employment list. (Weighted 100%)
Conviction History Form: As part of the application and selection
process, an applicant may be required to complete a Conviction
History Form. Please note that the Conviction History Form should
only be submitted when requested.
The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps
noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management
Regulations and accepted selection practices.
