Description:

County of Calaveras is seeking a Chief Building Official to lead the building and code compliance divisions. A seventeen member staff, including code enforcement and supplemented by contract and temporary workers as needed, provides assistance regarding building permits and/or land use questions, including code compliance and special events. With the devastation of the Butte Fire, our Building Official will play a vital role in the overall building and recovery efforts of Calaveras County.

The ideal candidate will have a stellar understanding of model codes and code interpretation; building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire codes, and who can strategize in anticipation of issues and consequences, lay out facts and present alternatives.

Qualifications:

Our new Chief Building Official will have:

• Five years of responsible work experience in construction with demonstrated knowledge of Uniform Building Codes;
• Five years of supervisory experience, two of which should be at the level of a Chief Building Official/Deputy Community Development Agency Director or equivalent;
• Certification as a Building Official from the International Code Counsel (ICC);
• Valid CA driver’s license;
• Preferred Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
