Description:

The Chief Deputy County Counsel – Infrastructure and Public Resources Practice Group functions as a Division Chief under the Assistant County Counsel. Using considerable independent judgment and discretion in staff supervision, the Chief Deputy may be delegated responsibilities for the overall day-to-day administration and management of the functions of the department. The Chief Deputy should either be, or expect to become, familiar with the Brown Act, the Public Records Act, the Political Reform Act, all aspects of public contracting and purchasing, public real estate procedures, and public financing.
The Infrastructure and Public Resources Practice Group regularly consults on matters of interest to the Board of Supervisors and County Administrator and advises an array of county departments including:
• General Services (Real Estate, Energy & Sustainability, Fleet, Architect, and Purchasing)
• Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector (all aspects of public finance and taxation)
• Department of Transportation and Public Works (including roads, airport, refuse, cable, transit, lighting districts and small water districts)
• County Clerk, Recorder and Registrar of Voters
• County Fire
• Parks Department

Qualifications:

Qualification for this position normally include Current active membership in the State Bar of California; and five years of responsible legal experience with emphasis on practicing civil law as a licensed attorney, at least two years of which should be at the level of Deputy County Counsel IV. Coursework, training, or supervisory and administrative experience in a public agency law office is highly desirable.
