Description:

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a high-visibility executive management position responsible for all Countywide information technology activities, including infrastructure and architecture, application development, re-engineering business processes, networks and outsourcing, as well as computer and auxillary operations and support. The CIO is responsible for tracking a broad range of emerging technologies to determine their maturity and applicability to the enterprise, assessing the relative impact of emerging technology on strategic business needs and interpreting their meaning to the senior leadership team.
The CIO participates in overall business technology planning, bringing a current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems as related to the company’s competitive position. He or she understands the organization’s core IT competencies and the value they bring to business processes. He or she interacts with internal and external customers to ensure continuous customer satisfaction and determines long-term countywide information needs, and develops the overall strategy for systems development and hardware acquisition and integration.

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate would typically possess considerable education and administrative experience, which would demonstrate a thorough knowledge of technology and the ability to plan, organize and direct the diversified activities and services of a large public information agency. The ability to perform the management responsibilities and possession of the knowledge and abilities associated with this classification would typically be acquired through education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Business/Public Administration or a closely related field and a minimum of 5 years recent executive level information systems management experience in a production environment in a governmental jurisdiction or private sector organization comparable in size and complexity to that of the County of Santa Clara.
