Code Compliance Inspector I $4,099 – $5,596 Code Compliance Inspector II $4,785 – $6,532

Description:

The Monterey County Resource Management Agency seeks Code Compliance Inspectors to provide investigations and on-site inspections necessary for the administration and enforcement of the County zoning, building, grading and erosion control codes and related laws and regulations governing land use. Candidates will be considered at both the Code Compliance Inspector I and II levels. Candidates appointed to the Code Compliance Inspector I level maybe promoted to the Code Compliance Inspector II level subject to meeting the employment standards for the higher job class and receiving a recommendation for promotion by the appointing authority. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, the ability to deal with difficult people in high stress situations, able to communicate effectively and be an active listener. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to interpret technical, complicated laws and ordinances and possess strong writing skills. The ideal candidate will also get along with others and be a team player.

Qualifications:

An example of a way the requirements may be acquired is: Code Compliance Inspector I: Experience: One year of experience in utilizing the uniform construction codes in the construction and building trades or one year of experience in utilizing zoning or other land regulations. OR One year of experience in an investigative position or related code enforcement field. Education: Completion of coursework in building or construction inspection, zoning, or other land use regulations. OR Completion of coursework in investigative techniques and practices. Code Compliance Inspector II: Experience: All of the above, and in addition: One year of experience independently making inspections in all types of zoning, building, grading, and erosion-control codes and related laws and regulations governing land use.
