The County of Sonoma Permit and Resource Management Department seeks a dynamic and seasoned leader to unify and promote the Department’s mission of managing and preserving critical natural resources and orderly land development.

This employment list is being created to fill one full-time, time-limited Communications Manager vacancy. This time-limited allocation is funded until November, 3, 2017.

The Permit and Resource Management Department encompasses Engineering, Planning, Building, Well & Septic, and Code Enforcement, and services the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County. The 109-member Department is responsible for the stewardship and preservation of resources and orderly land development while adhering to safe and healthy construction standards.

The Communications Manager will create and manage a unified communications program, utilizing thorough and comprehensive oral and written communication methods as well as social media and web content. Reporting to the PRMD Director, this management position works directly with the Director and division managers to craft media messages and policy statements. With the department’s high-profile focus on land use development and resource management, this position will play a key role in effectively communicating County policy to the public, and stakeholders, requiring the ability to stay in front issues and legislation as they develop, and communicating the message efficiently and effectively.

Qualifications:

Education: Normally, significant college coursework in business or public administration, finance, economics or a closely related area would provide this opportunity. For some assignments, college coursework in social work, psychology, sociology or a closed related field may be desirable.

Experience: Normally, three years of experience supervising or coordinating a program including some responsibility for program coordination, planning, analysis and administration, including at least one year leading or supervising staff would provide such opportunity. Specific experience related to the assigned position may be required for designated positions and will be stated as such in recruitment materials.

License: Possession of a valid driver’s license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment, to perform the essential job functions of the position.
