Description:

The County of Calaveras invites applications for the position of Deputy County Administrative Officer – Director of Human Resources and Risk Management to lead and participate in the areas of talent acquisition and management, classification and compensation, labor relations, collective bargaining, organizational and employee development, benefits administration, legal compliance and risk management including safety, liability, self-insurance, and worker’s compensation.  Our new director will lead a four person team and provide expert assistance to the CAO, Board of Supervisors, and department heads.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be articulate, collaborative and confident with a proven track record in Human Resources and Risk Management operations.  Knowledge of contemporary HR generalist functions and ability to provide proactive support to both internal and external customers is expected.  Our new director must be approachable and committed to mentorship and the professional growth of the HR team.  

Any combination of training and education which would provide the require knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  Typically, qualifying education and experience would include a Bachelor’s Degree in public or business administration or related field, and five (5) years of professional level experience in a public or private human resources and risk management program in an administrative, executive or consulting capacity, with at least two years in a supervisory role.  The experience will have included work in the areas of negotiations, insurance administration, personnel management, risk management and program development.
