Description:

Sonoma County Counsel seeks highly motivated, career-oriented attorneys for an Infrastructure and Public Resources/Litigation position in the County Counsel’s Office.

This position will be assigned to the Infrastructure and Public Resources Practice Group, and may also provide support to the Office’s Litigation Practice Group. In the area of Infrastructure and Public Resources, the position will provide legal counsel to County departments on transactional and advisory matters such as:
• Complex real estate transactions
• Solid waste regulations
• Public contracting and procurement
• Competitive bidding under the Uniform Public Cost Accounting Act
• Water law and land conservation
Additionally, in support of the Office’s Litigation Practice Group, this position may handle a wide range of County legal matters including litigation involving contracts, contamination, code enforcement and qui tam actions, as well as defense of tort litigation, Brown Act, Public Records Act, and employment law issues.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will possess:
• Experience in complex transactional matters, including public works, real property transactions, conflicts of interest, public procurement, construction law, water law, land conservation, solid waste, and/or transportation
• Public law litigation experience, including trial work
• Experience preparing and presenting civil cases before State and Federal courts and administrative bodies
• A record of excellent academic achievement
• Exceptional research and writing skills
• The proven ability to creatively problem-solve
• The ability to work effectively, both as part of a team and independently

Qualifications for this position requires Current active membership in the State Bar of California, and normally includes:
• For the II level: one year of legal experience practicing civil or governmental law as a licensed attorney
• For the III level: two years of legal experience practicing civil law as a licensed attorney, at least one year of which was with a public agency performing duties comparable to a Deputy County Counsel II; or comparable experience in private practice
