Description:

SCAQMD’s mission is to protect public health from air pollution through program planning, regulation, education, enforcement, incentives, technical innovation, and promotion of public understanding. The Director of Communication will assist with developing a strategic communications plan for overall agency messaging and critical issues and crisis management communications as they arise. This position will report to the Executive Officer, offering opportunities to drive agency strategy and message development involving a breadth of communication platforms, collaborate with other SCAQMD departments to develop agency-wide message/branding initiatives, and lead a proactive and responsive internal and external communications process during emergencies and crisis situations.

Qualifications:

Candidates should be media savvy and proactive in organizational messaging, creative branding, and developing long term strategies for controversial issues. The individual should also enjoy being on camera and working with the public. Eight or more years of senior management experience in directing media, public relations, and communications activities, including public relations for a public or governmental agency combined with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or other related field is preferred. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible management experience and the ability to read, write and speak Spanish is required.
