Description:

Sonoma County (population 488,000) is located less than 30 miles north of San Francisco and boasts over 200 wineries, scenic coastline and beaches, the winding Russian River, diverse festivals, fine dining, and charming inns and spas. The Permit and Resource Management Department (PRMD) was established to provide a “one-stop shop” for all County land use planning and development activities, including: processing and inspecting various types of permits; environmental review for public and private projects; maintaining and updating the Sonoma County General Plan; and enforcing building and development codes. PRMD is divided into three main areas: Planning, Engineering and Construction, and Administration. The FY2012-13 Departmental budget is $19 million with 102 full time equivalent staff positions. This position is under general policy direction from the five-member Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator.

Qualifications:

Desire any combination of education and experience that would provide the desired knowledge and abilities, such as: a relevant bachelor’s degree and graduate course work in planning, engineering, business and/or public administration; and at least five years of increasingly responsible management experience in development services or related administrative management functions. Having some experience with planning is a priority for the County. Prefer experience as a department head or deputy/assistant with a geographically and resource diverse (including rural) general purpose local government. California experience is desirable, although candidates from other similar geographically and resource diverse areas will be considered.
