Director of Transportation and Public Works (TPW)
November 9, 2012
Sonoma County (population 488,000) is located less than 30 miles north of San Francisco and boasts over 200 wineries, scenic coastline and beaches, the winding Russian River, diverse festivals, fine dining, and charming inns and spas. The TPW Department provides road construction and maintenance services and directly provides or administers contracts for the provision of various public utility services. The FY2012-13 Departmental budget is almost $221 million with 186 permanent staff positions. The Department has eleven divisions: Roads, Integrated Waste (Refuse), Transit, Airport, Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution Control District, Special Projects, Heavy Equipment Internal Service Fund, Rio Nido Geological Hazard Abatement District, Permanent Roads, Lighting Districts, and Water System Services. This is an “at will” position under general policy direction from the five-member Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator.
Desire any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities, such as a relevant bachelor’s degree and at least five years of increasingly responsible management and supervisory experience with an organization consisting of functions associated with transportation systems, public works, integrated solid waste and air quality. Registration as a Professional Engineer and Licensed Land Surveyor in California is desirable, but not required. California experience a plus.
