Description:
The Public Works Department Design Division is seeking an
Engineer III to assist with professional level engineering and
project management activities for implementation of Capital
Improvement and Maintenance Projects, primarily bridge
replacement projects.
In addition to the general Representative Duties for the Engineer
Series, it is anticipated that the qualified Engineer III
candidate will fulfill one or more of the following essential
functions for the Design Division – Highway Bridge Unit:
• Procure, administer, and manage engineering contracts between
the County and private engineering firms.
• Ensure that assigned bridge projects are completed within
scope, cost, schedule, and budgeted resources, and that projects
comply with departmental standards and Caltrans/FHWA funding
criteria.
• Provide technical oversight and project coordination of
consultants and County staff performing engineering,
environmental, and right-of-way work related to the development
of the County’s bridge projects.
• Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of designs, plans,
quantities, specifications and construction drawings for County
bridge projects.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Either A: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or
university with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a
closely related engineering field (Job-related professional level
civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying
experience may be substituted for the required education on a
year-for-year basis); Or B: Possession of an Engineer in Training
(E.I.T.) Certificate or Land Surveyor in Training (L.S.I.T.)
Certificate and four years of paraprofessional level civil
engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying
experience.
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil
Engineer or Land Surveyor issued by the California State Board of
Registration AND one year of professional level civil
engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying
experience.(Possession of a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
or a closely related field may be substituted for the required
experience.)
AND:
One year of specialized professional level civil engineering,
traffic engineering, or land surveying experience such as serving
as a resident engineer on small construction projects, experience
as an assistant engineer on major construction projects, or
project leader on a design project.
Licenses and Certificates:
A valid driver license is required at the time of application. A
valid CALIFORNIA driver license is required at the time
of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil
Engineer or Land Surveyor issued by the California State Board of
Registration is required at the time of application and must be
maintained throughout employment
