Description:

The Director of Human Services is the administrative head of the Human Services Agency. The incumbent provides oversight of and direction to the various divisions and organizational units of the agency within state and federal legal requirements and regulations and County ordinances, policies and procedural guidelines. Program areas include public assistance, employment and training, social services, and special investigations. Areas of responsibility include: providing leadership and long-range strategic and program planning; developing and implementing agency policies, goals and objectives; administering the agency’s budget and maintaining effective fiscal controls, and overseeing the administration of personnel selection, evaluation, training and disciplinary practices and policies of the agency.

Qualifications:

OPTION I
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the field of social work, social sciences, behavioral sciences, public administration, business, or a field related to human services, AND two years of experience equivalent to an Assistant or Deputy Director of a California County human services agency.

OPTION II
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the field of social work, social sciences, behavioral sciences, public administration, business, or a field related to human services, AND three years of executive or senior management-level experience in a California County human services agency.

OPTION III
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the field of social work, social sciences, behavioral sciences, public administration, business, or a field related to human services, AND five years of executive or senior management experience in a public agency which demonstrates responsibility for budgeting, program planning and implementation, and supervision of a division or unit. (Substitution: Possession of a Master’s degree in social work, behavioral sciences, public administration, business or a field related to human services may substitute for up to one year of the required experience.)
