Description:

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Finance Department are conducting a recruitment for the position of Payroll Manger. There is currently one (1) full-time vacancy.

Under the general direction of the Finance Division Chief, the Payroll Manager manages the staff and operations of the County’s centralized payroll system; designs and implements payroll procedures for County departments; works with Information Systems & Technology on implementation of compensation and policy changes, updates and modifications; and analyzes output for accuracy and compliance with federal and state laws and memorandums of understanding. In addition, the Payroll Manager participates in labor negotiations.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has proven experience overseeing the processing of a high-volume payroll operation, exceptional communication skills, familiarity with collective bargaining, extensive experience in a supervisory role and experience implementing a payroll system.

Minimum Qualifications:
An eight-year combination of relevant course work and professional experience. A typical way of achieving these requirements would be graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, public administration or a closely related field and four years of increasingly responsible professional payroll experience, at least one year of which must have included supervisory experience.

Experience in a governmental agency, working with government clients, or in a unionized environment is highly desirable.
