Base salary is $116,040 annually

Description:

Humboldt County (population 135,000), located in the heart of northern California’s majestic coastal redwood region with over 110 miles of beautiful coastline, is arguably the most beautiful place in America.

The Planning and Building Director will be a responsive and service oriented professional that provides exceptional leadership and expertise in the management and oversight of the various departmental operations. The position is appointed by and works closely with the county Board of Supervisors and will have significant interactions with the CAO’s office, the Planning Commission, County Counsel’s office and the general community. The new Director must ensure the various perspectives and interests of all constituents are considered. This will require proactive and effective communications, strong relationship skills, and an ability to provide pragmatic and well-founded recommendations.

Qualifications:

The ideal background will include a BA in urban or regional planning or a related field and four or more years of supervisory or administrative experience in planning, building inspection, permit processing and/or related planning and/or building activities. Knowledge and experience with CEQA, the Coastal Commission, Agriculture and Timber Protection Zones is highly desirable.
