Description:

Road Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry-level class in the Road/Landfill Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents perform a wide variety of unskilled and semi-unskilled duties such as patching roads, cutting brush or weeds and culvert and drainage clearing and may operate light or medium trucks and use hand and power tools in their work. When assigned to Solid Waste Division, incumbents perform a wide variety of additional duties related to solid waste operations and facility maintenance. On a training or emergency basis, incumbents may operate heavy trucks and equipment and be assigned duties normally assigned to the Road/Landfill Maintenance Worker II class or Landfill Equipment Operator position.

Road Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level position in the Road Maintenance Worker series; incumbents in this class operate a variety of power-driven equipment, such as trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers, and striping machines. A Road Maintenance Worker II may operate some of the equipment normally assigned to the Road Maintenance Worker III class on an emergency, training, or relief basis.

Qualifications:

Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Road Maintenance Worker I
Possession of a valid California driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
One (1) year of responsible experience in road or facility maintenance or general construction work.

Road Maintenance Worker II
Possession of a valid Class a California driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Two (2) years of road or facility maintenance and construction experience involving the operation of trucks or other motorized equipment.
