Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve
(Newport Beach)
Each year, thousands of visitors bike, walk, kayak, bird watch or simply relax in the tranquility of the 135-acre Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve. The Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve is a treasured asset, not only for its recreational value, but also for its contribution to our local ecosystem. The bay’s many different habitats and distinct communities are all brought to life at the Peter and Mary Muth Center. A state-of-the-art facility dedicated to education, the Muth Interpretive Center helps visitors understand and better appreciate the unique beauty of the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve.
Visit the nature preserve to learn not only about the Bay, but about those who love it and how County, State, City and Volunteer organizations have come together to nurture, protect and share it with others.
Central Utility Facility
(Santa Ana)
Pursuing more sustainable infrastructures, Orange County has designed and constructed a Combined Heat & Power (CHP) Plant that provides electrical, heating and cooling capacity to upwards of four million square feet of municipal facilities operating within the Santa Ana Civic Center. These municipal facilities are made up of County, City, State and Federal facilities representing critical operations from the State’s district Court House to Orange County Sheriff’s main jail, intake and release center.
The CHP Plant provides the County with a highly reliable and economically effective tool to reduce operating cost and equally our environmental footprint. On average since operations began in 2010 the County has benefitted upwards of 5 Million dollars in annual cost savings with a carbon footprint reduction of 30%. Additionally the CHP plant is capable of running indefinitely in an islanded mode independent of the utility grid which ensures continuity of operations for municipalities operating in the Santa Ana Civic Center.
The Central Utility CHP tour is a unique and innovative opportunity to experience a cost effective, sustainable energy model.
Please note that the following other programs will also be taking place during that time period:
- Noon – CEAC’s CLODS BBQ
- 1:30 pm – 5 pm: CSAC Institute Course: Art and Practice of Elected Leadership
- 1:45 pm – 4:30 pm: CCBSA Annual Business Meeting/Strategic Planning Roundtable
- 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm: CSAC Board of Directors Meeting
