Senior Vice President and General Counsel
The California Building Industry Association (CBIA) is seeking an accomplished legal leader to serve as Senior Vice President and General Counsel, in preparation for the retirement of its long-tenured and highly respected General Counsel, Mr. Nick Cammarota.
CBIA is widely regarded as one of the nation’s premier statewide trade associations and serves as the leading voice for housing in California. Headquartered in Sacramento, CBIA advocates tirelessly on behalf of its members and plays a significant role in shaping housing policy not only across California, but throughout the United States. The association represents thousands of member companies—including homebuilders, trade contractors, architects, engineers, designers, suppliers, and other professionals engaged in single-family, multi-family, and mixed-use development. Collectively, CBIA members are responsible for nearly 90% of new housing construction in California, spanning projects from affordable and charitable housing to market-rate and luxury developments.
This role presents a rare opportunity to join a mission-driven organization at a pivotal moment for housing policy. Ideal candidates will hold an active California bar license, possess eight to ten years of experience in land use and environmental law, and demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing solutions that improve quality of life across California.
COMPENSATION AND INTERVIEW PROCESS
The competitive compensation package includes a base salary of $300,000-$350,000, depending upon experience, plus excellent benefits. Pre-screened, selected candidates will be invited to interview in Sacramento, CA with the Search Committee on Monday, February 23rd, 2026, with second interviews for finalists the following morning.
