Opportunities from NACo’s Opioid Solutions Center 

On the heels of International Overdose Awareness Day, which was Monday, August 31^st, we wanted to share two opportunities for counties from NACo’s Opioid Solutions Center: 

• Opioid Use Disorder Treatment in Rural Jails: Free Operational Support & Peer Learning  
  A new program led by UMass Chan Medical School and funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) offers practical, hands-on coaching to help counties begin or expand medications for opioid use disorder in their correctional facilities – at no cost, with no travel required. Only 40 spots are available, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.  E-mail: JCOINECHO@umassmed.edu for a short, zero commitment introduction call.  

• Large Metro Area Working Group on Opioid Settlements – October 28^th, at 12:00pm PT: Peer Learning Network for Opioid Settlement Administrators of Metropolitan Cities and Counties 
  Starting in October, Big Cities Health Coalition, Michigan Association of Counties, Detroit & Wayne County and NACo will be launching a quarterly virtual series to discuss the unique complexities of administering opioid settlement funds in large. If you are an opioid settlement administrator in a city or county with 500k+ in population and interested in connecting with peers across state lines to exchange strategies, tackle shared challenges, and strengthen planning, governance, and utilization of settlement funds, please register here.
