CSAC Statement on Prop 36 Funding in State Budget

Sacramento, CA — California State Association of Counties (CSAC) CEO Graham Knaus issued the following statement today expressing concern over the insufficient funding for Proposition 36 included in the newly approved state budget:

Voters overwhelmingly approved Prop 36, and now it’s the law of the land.

This budget deal forces counties to implement Prop 36 for pennies on the dollar. Californians deserve better.

By the numbers:

• Funding for counties to implement Prop 36: $65 million
  • Behavioral Health: $50 million subject to provisions
  • Public Defenders: $15 million
