Improving and Assessing Domestic Violence Programs and Systems
Back to Policy IssuesIn early 2017, the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) co-sponsored legislation authored by California Assembly Member Mark Stone. AB 372 (Chapter 290, Statutes of 2018) was created to help advance domestic violence batterer intervention programs, allowing six counties (Napa, San Luis Obispo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, and Yolo) to pilot alternative interventions, focusing on creating the opportunity for change to stop future incidents of domestic violence. CSAC, with the support of the Blue Shield of California Foundation, embarked on supporting these critical efforts as part of a larger CSAC Initiative on Improving Domestic Violence Programs and Systems.
This initiative has included local Batterer Intervention Program modifications, annual reporting, briefs focused on looking at the California Domestic Violence system, curriculum advancements, programming reports, and recidivism research work.
