PPIC Releases New Child Care Report, Hosts Upcoming Webinar

The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) has released a new report titled “California’s Changing Child Care Landscape: Understanding Costs and Supply.” The report examines trends in child care for children up to the age of five from 2015 to 2024, with a particular focus on subsidized care for low- and moderate-income families.
It also explores how shifts in early childhood education policy and funding over the past decade have affected affordability, access, and sustainability of subsidized programs. While public investments have led to improved affordability and modest gains in overall capacity, a significant gap persists between the number of children eligible for subsidized care and those actually enrolled.
To highlight key findings from the report, PPIC will host a virtual event on Thursday, September 4, from 11:00 am to 11:40 am. The full report and accompanying policy brief are available on the PPIC website.
