CSAC Statement on Legislative Hypocrisy

The Assembly Appropriations Committee amended SB 487 (Grayson) on Friday to exempt the state from the onerous new workers’ compensation costs the measure would mandate.

Specifically, it limits how much local agencies can get from a third party to pay for workers’ comp claims for police or firefighters.

Statement from CSAC CEO Graham Knaus: “This is classic state ‘Do as we say, not as we do’ hypocrisy. It’s a clear indication that lawmakers know this is terrible public policy, but they’re fine forcing local governments to live with it.”
