We’re seeking a collaborative and experienced leader to help guide programs that support vulnerable populations and strengthen our community. This executive role oversees key administrative functions, builds partnerships with staff and community stakeholders, and helps shape the future of Human Services in Santa Cruz County.

Position: Assistant Director of Human Services
Salary: $ 184,101 – 246,750 Annually
Closing Date: Friday, June 26, 2026

Recruitment Timeline:

  • Week of June 29, 2026 – Application screening will be conducted, and selected candidates will be invited to participate in Advisory Panel interviews.
  • Week of July 6, 2026 – Advisory Panel interviews will take place.
  • Wednesday, July 15, 2026 – Final selection interviews will be conducted.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in human services administration, public administration, social work, business administration, psychology, behavioral science, or a closely related field
AND
Four years of extensive budgetary, administrative and management experience that demonstrates application or possession of the knowledge and abilities.

Oversee all administrative functions of the Department, including Fiscal, InformationTechnology, Planning and Evaluation, and Employee Relations. Exercise initiative, ingenuity, and sound judgment in solving difficult & complex managerial problems. Prepare and present accurate, comprehensive, and concise oral and written reports. Direct management and other subordinate staff.
