Deputy Director of Public Works – Engineering
The San Joaquin County Public Works Department is seeking a dynamic, seasoned leader to serve as a Deputy Director of Public Works, overseeing the critical Engineering Services functional area. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring a professional with proven ability to drive complex infrastructure projects and manage a large multi-disciplinary team.

Reporting directly to the Director of Public Works, the Deputy Director is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management, and administration of Engineering Services. This includes:
Strategic Direction and Oversight: Providing comprehensive leadership, direction, and oversight for all functions within Engineering Services.
Team Leadership: Leading and mentoring a substantial technical workforce,Engineering Services, that currently accounts for 68 full-time allocated
positions within the department.
Core Functions: Direct oversight of specialized units, including:
* Bridge Engineering
* Design Engineering
* Field Engineering
* Transportation Engineering
Desirable Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited university with a major in civil engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience: Five years of professional engineering work in a supervisory or administrative capacity with a large organization performing diversified public
works activities, two years of which must have been as a Registered Civil Engineer.
Required Qualifications
License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Certificate: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers.
