The County of San Diego, California, is seeking an innovative and service-oriented executive to serve as its next Director of Human Resources. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, this trusted advisor provides leadership and direction for all Countywide human resources (HR) functions and acts as a key partner to the Board of Supervisors, executive leadership, and labor organizations. The Director currently oversees 137 staff, a $33.5 million budget, and internal service funds related to risk insurance while guiding a department that delivers a full spectrum of HR services. A key priority for this role is reviewing the County’s HR model to strengthen operational excellence and increase consistency in decision making across the County organization. The ideal candidate is a seasoned and politically astute HR professional with public sector experience and expertise across a broad portfolio of HR functions, including labor relations, organizational development, risk management, loss prevention, medical standards, benefits administration, workers compensation, workforce information system management and workforce planning. SALARY AND BENEFITS

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $275,000 – $300,000. PLUS an attractive benefits package.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 
Five (5) years of management level experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the classification. Experience must include at least one (1) year of supervision; AND a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or certified foreign studies equivalency.

Note: A master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.
