Fire Chief

The County of Sutter, California, is seeking a collaborative and innovative Fire Chief (Classification: Fire Services Manager) to lead its fire services operations and guide the department through a period of growth and organizational evolution. This role offers a unique opportunity to strengthen service delivery, enhance community engagement, and advance operational excellence within a small, community-centered environment. The Fire Chief oversees three stations, approximately 25 full-time/extra help staff and 40-50 volunteer personnel County-wide, as well as a $5.6 million budget. They serve as the County’s top fire official and a key advisor to County leadership on fire protection, emergency response, and public safety priorities. The next Chief will play a pivotal role in stabilizing staffing, rebuilding specialized training programs, supporting upcoming funding initiatives, and reinforcing a cohesive, service-driven culture.
