Public Works/Transportation Director
Located in Northeastern California, Lassen County affords unlimited outdoor recreation and sporting activities for residents and visitors. Attractions include: trophy trout fishing and water sports at nationally renowned Eagle Lake, the second largest natural lake in California; abundant hunting opportunities; the scenic Bizz Johnson Trail, a 25 mile long converted rail route between Susanville and historic Westwood which attracts mountain bikers, hikers, cross country skiers and fly fishing enthusiasts, and is the setting for the annual Boston qualifier Bizz Johnson Marathon.
Lassen County is seeking a Public Works/Transportation Director with a solid public works/transportation background and proven leadership skills. With a budget of $26+ million and a staff of 48, the Public Works/Transportation Director oversees the activities, budgets and operations for the Public Works Department including roads, bridges, buildings and grounds, park maintenance, cemeteries, airports, transportation planning, and emergency services. Additionally, provides responsible and complex administrative support to the County Administrator and the Board of Supervisors with reference to the Streets and Highway Code.
Qualifications include any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
Six years of increasingly responsible experience in Public Works administration, including two years of significant administrative managerial experience working in a large, public agency.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of employment, a valid Registered Civil Engineer license from the State of California is desired but not a requirement. Add 10% Salary Premium for possession of California Registered Civil Engineer License.
The salary range for this career opportunity is $112,009 to $149,085 Annually, plus a 3.1% COLA beginning July 5, 2026. Placement within the salary range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
