Contra Costa Risk Management Department is seeking to fill one (1) Safety Services Specialist – Experienced Level A to join our Safety and Loss Control Unit.The Safety Services Specialist reports directly to the Assistant Risk Manager – Safety and Loss Control and is responsible for performing a high level of compliance-related duties, which include implementing the County’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Ergonomics Program, and other safety compliance programs; investigating workplace injuries and illnesses; analyzing loss control data and providing recommendations on prevention; developing training presentations, and performing other related work as required.

The Safety and Loss Control program is a small and dedicated unit within the Risk Management team. Each team member has a unique opportunity to support each other, make an immediate impact on the program, and to share their experience and knowledge with the rest of the team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.  Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the applicant process.

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in safety, industrial engineering, or a closely related field.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of full-time responsible experience in an environmental, health and safety administrative or staff capacity performing duties in areas such as EH&S program administration, occupational injury investigation and prevention, vehicle accident prevention, and EH&S training.

Substitution: Additional experience of the type noted above and possession of a Safety or related certificate from an accredited college or a university may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. One (1) additional year of experience of the type noted above may be substituted for the required academic major.
