2026 County Platform Update: What to Know and How to Get Involved
Back to News
What is special about 2026? That’s right: it’s a County Platform update year. Every two years CSAC updates this foundational policy document to guide our advocacy on behalf of California’s 58 counties. This process will conclude at the 132nd CSAC Annual Meeting this December when the CSAC Board of Directors considers formally adopting the 2027-28 County Platform. Before then, members of the county family can get involved. Here’s what to know:
Why update the platform every other year?
The timing of County Platform updates is intentional. Each update coincides with the start of a new legislative session, allowing CSAC to respond to issues that came up during the previous legislative session, establish policy priorities, and address emerging issues to guide advocacy during the upcoming session (the 2027-2028 Legislative Session, in this case).
Who decides what makes it into the platform?
Although the Board of Directors officially adopts the new County Platform, all members of the county family take a hand in shaping its content.
The process begins when CSAC solicits updates from each of its five policy committees. At the CSAC Annual Meeting, each policy committee reviews and approves its portion of the updated platform. Finally, the complete document goes to the Board of Directors for official adoption.
How can you get involved?
This year’s solicitation for updates was distributed to CSAC’s policy committee listservs on October 1. If you didn’t receive this solicitation but want to weigh in, reach out to legcoordinator@counties.org. Make sure to send in your suggestions by our deadline of 5:00pm on Monday, November 2.
You can also take part in the process in-person by attending the policy committee meetings at CSAC’s 132nd Annual Meeting in San Diego County from November 30 to December 4.
