CalHHS Releases Overview of Initial Impacts of H.R. 1
Back to News
This week, the California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS) released a recorded webinar summarizing the initial impacts of H.R. 1, which was signed by President Trump earlier this month, on California’s health and social services programs. The recording can be accessed on the CalHHS YouTube page with the section timestamps as follows:
- 0:00 – Introduction by CalHHS Secretary Kim Johnson
- 2:28 – Medi-Cal provisions by Department of Health Care Services Director Michelle Baass
- 26:00 – Covered California Provisions by Covered California Executive Director Jessica Altman
- 38:21 – CalFresh provisions by California Department of Social Services Director Jennifer Troia
- 56:21 – Next steps by CalHHS Secretary Kim Johnson
Additionally, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 7 on Accountability and Oversight will hold an informational hearing on the impact of H.R. 1 on California’s Budget. While additional details have not yet been released, it is widely acknowledged that the Legislature will need to take additional actions related to the State Budget following the passage of H.R. 1 because the Budget Act passed in June does not account for the changes and impacts of H.R. 1.
