CSAC is co-hosting a webinar with the California Advisory Committee on Geographic Names (CACGN), a committee within the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), to obtain input on their draft regulations to clarify the Petition Process for Renaming Offensive and Derogatory Public Geographic Features and Place Names. The proposed draft regulations provide a definition for “offensive and derogatory,” a procedure and petition process for identifying Offensive and Derogatory Public Geographic Features and Place Names, and a process for approving replacement names.

A draft of the proposed regulations can be found here.

CSAC and CNRA is inviting counties to participate in the upcoming webinar regarding these topics which will be held on June 18, 2026 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. CSAC will provide a link to the register for the webinar once CNRA makes one available.

Please contact Mark Neuburger at mneuburger@counties.org if you have any questions.
