California Energy Commission Announces Incentive Program for Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

On August 5, the California Energy Commission (CEC) announced the Fast Charge California Project, a program that allocates $55 million to cover costs of public electric vehicle (EV) direct current fast charge stations. From now through October 29, qualifying businesses and county public sites can apply have up to 100% of the installation costs, capped at $100,000 per charging port covered by this program.  

This program is part of the California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP), which was launched in 2017 to incentivize installation of public EV charging stations in California. 

To qualify for a funding rebate: 

  • Sites must be publicly accessible, such as parking lots, retail centers, and other high-traffic destinations.  
  • Projects must be ready to build and have final utility design and permits. 
  • Priority is being given to tribal, disadvantaged, and low-income communities.
