Each year, the CalPERS Board of Administration sets health plan premiums for the following calendar year through a comprehensive rate development process. This process aims to align premiums with projected costs and deliver affordable and sustainable benefits for their members and employers.

On June 17th during their Health Rates Special Briefing, the CalPERS board announced their preliminary health plan premiums for the 2026 calendar year

These include an overall weighted increase of 8.2%, with specific average weighted increases as follows:

Basic Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): 6.5%

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): 12.1%

Medicare Plans: 10.8%

Pending final approval by the board in July, these health premiums will be adopted and take effect January 1, 2026.

For more detailed information, please refer to the CalPERS Pension & Health Benefits Committee report. The CalPERS Board will formally adopt the rates in mid-July.
