CalRecycle to Host Webinar on SB 1383 and SB 54 Implementation
Back to News
Counties are encouraged to participate in an upcoming CalRecycle webinar examining the intersection of California’s organics recycling law (SB 1383) and the state’s new packaging extended producer responsibility framework established under SB 54.
The webinar will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to hear directly from CalRecycle and the Circular Action Alliance (CAA) regarding implementation, including CAA’s proposed SB 54 reimbursement program for local jurisdictions and recycling service providers, the exemption process, and enforcement.
SB 1383 requires jurisdictions to implement programs that reduce the disposal of organic waste and increase edible food recovery, while SB 54 establishes a statewide extended producer responsibility system for single-use packaging and food service ware. In May, the Office of Administrative Law approved CalRecycle’s permanent SB 54 regulations, marking a significant milestone in the implementation of California’s landmark law.
As counties continue implementing SB 1383 requirements and evaluating the potential impacts of SB 54 on local solid waste and recycling systems, this webinar presents an important opportunity to better understand how these major programs will work together moving forward and engage with program operators and regulators.
The webinar will be held next Wednesday, June 17, from 9 AM to 12 PM. Register here today.
