Counties Invited to Showcase Their History Through “Highlights of California Collections”
Back to News
California’s counties are home to some of the most important public records, photos, documents, and artifacts in the state — and now there’s a simple new way to share those stories with a statewide audience.
The Friends of California Archives is inviting counties to participate in its ongoing “Highlights of California Collections” series, which features archival collections from across California and promotes public access to local history.
Participation is easy! Counties should submit:
- One or two images (JPG or PNG, 720px or higher resolution) that represent a collection.
- Brief descriptive text (Word document is fine) that:- Describes the collection.
- Explains how the public can access it — for example, in person, by website, online request, or direct link.

- Credits and logo- Please include proper credit for all images.
- Please include your preferred logo file.

There is currently no strict word limit. Counties are encouraged to aim for the tone and length of existing features — engaging, informative, and designed to pique public interest without overwhelming detail. To see examples, visit thefriendsofcaarchives.org and select “Highlights” at the top menu or scroll to “Highlights of California Collections” on the homepage.
Accessibility Note: The Friends of California Archives adds audio/voiceover elements to posts to improve accessibility. Counties do not need to record audio — that part is handled by their web team.
Timing:
- Features are posted on the 1st of each month.
- To be considered for an upcoming month, please submit materials by the 15th of the previous month.
- Slots are currently first come, first served. If your county would like to be featured in a specific month — for example to align with an anniversary or local celebration — they’ll do their best to accommodate.
How to Submit:
Email your materials or any questions to Terry at tmyrrdin@gmail.com or secretarytfoca@gmail.com.
CSAC is proud to help elevate California’s county archives and local historical collections. This is a great opportunity to highlight the work counties do every day to preserve California’s story — and to invite the public to learn more.
